What is AVADO Monitoring?

AVADO Monitoring is the Grafana package in the DappStore. Installing it also installs Prometheus, which collects the metrics, and Node exporter, which reads the box’s hardware statistics.

With monitoring installed, the Home page of the Admin also warns you when your consensus client falls behind the chain, has too few peers or misses attestations, and shows a chain status strip with the current epoch and peer count.

Everything runs locally on your AVADO. No metrics are sent to AVADO or anyone else.

Set it up in three steps

  1. Step 1

    Open the DappStore

    In the Admin UI on your AVADO, open the DappStore.

  2. Step 2

    Install Grafana

    Prometheus and Node exporter are installed with it automatically.

  3. Step 3

    Open Grafana

    Click Open next to Grafana server in My DApps, or go to http://grafana.my.ava.do:3000. The dashboards are in the AVADO folder.

Questions and answers

Is any monitoring data sent to AVADO?

Monitoring data is not sent to AVADO: Grafana, Prometheus and Node exporter run on your AVADO and the metrics stay there. Only if you subscribe to Priority Care and install the AVADO Care app does your box send a short health check-in to AVADO.

Which clients have dashboards?

The clients with dashboards are Teku, Nimbus and Prysm. Whatever you run, you also get dashboards for the box itself: CPU, memory, disk and network.

How do I open it?

Grafana is opened from My DApps in the Admin UI: click Open next to Grafana server, or go to http://grafana.my.ava.do:3000. The dashboards are in the AVADO folder.

Can I get alerts when something goes wrong?

Grafana shows what happens on your AVADO while you look at it; it doesn’t send alerts. With Priority Care, AVADO emails you when your box has been offline for an hour and when it’s back, and when the box’s own health checks find a serious problem, such as a stopped app, a full disk or a consensus client that has fallen behind. The first 14 days are free. For alerts about your validators as the network sees them, you can also use an online explorer such as beaconcha.in.
